From The President by Vic Aloisio

Time to lock and load!!  With the longer nights, let’s get ready for spring.  Now is the perfect time to tie flies to replace all of the ones you left last year either at the bottom of the Hooch or in the trees at Smith Creek.  Get out your fly rods, clean the ferrules and check the eyes to be sure they are not broken or bent.  If they are damaged you have plenty of time to fix it your self or find someone else to do it for you.  Get out the vest, sort it out, and  maybe wash it too.  No telling what you might find in the pockets.  Might find an old sandwich from late last summer that you could donate to science.   Had a hunting buddy, who one early summer day had a very bad smell coming from  his closet.  After a short search, he found in the back of his hunting vest a very, very dead quail.   While in your vest check out that old bottle of floatant, do an inventory of your leaders, weights, tippets and indicators. Might be time to replace some of these items.  Work on your reels. I know I clean my reels every 5 years if they need it or not.  I suggest you don’t follow my example.   Clean and lube your reel at least annually.  Then  clean or replace the line and check your knots.     Check out your waders, float tubes and pontoon boats for leaks.  Replace worn parts on them and touch up paint on the pontoon boats.  Now is the time to do all these things so you can hit the water running this year, and prevent last minute hassles and potential disasters.

Remember the January 27th meeting and the February 24th meetings will still be at the damn store.  The March 23rd meeting will be back at  the hatchery.  March 6th there will be a clean up at Settles Bridge.  April the Chapter will have a work day up on Smith Creek.  After that, May brings the kid’s fishing class.  June brings us a Kids Fishing Event and a week long Fly Fishing Camp that we will help out with.  Even with all this there will be plenty of time to wets some lines.

As always if you can’t be handsome at least be a fisherman.

GOOD INFO from NGTO

Somebody turned me on to the site below that has a "turbidity" index

for McGinness Ferry and Paces (Mill?). This is a new term to me but as I have read and verified through actual stream visits, turbidity is a measure of particles in the water, or clarity. Without getting into the

details, I have found below 20 fishable, and less than 10 (today it

was 7) as clear as you ever see the Hootch... Hope this helps.
